Nail Watch

Posted: Tuesday, September 30, 2008

We have seen many different types of futuristic watches with strange shapes and design but none so unique as this. Now lets welcome the Nail watch, that can be worn on the thumb. You may have never seen a watch that can be worn on the thumb but times are going to change thanks to Timex. Timex, in collaboration with Core77, held a global design competition called 2154: the future of time design. So what we are seeing here is the TX54 concept which was a runner up

Thanks to a translucent body, the design blends seamlessly with the nail while a selection of text color options and a glow feature activating on command make it supremely functional as well. Press the end of your thumbnail, and the watch will light up for you. A perfect blend of appearance, user interface, and technology, the nail watch passes most standards of modern design with flying colors thanks to its functional and minimalist appeal. The watch looks stylish and chic and has a touch of Geeky style as well. The downside of this watch is that it is disposable. So with so many stylish watched being available now, it will be hard for it to survive in the market. Though it is quite innovative with a minimalist design, but it won't last long on your finger.

No details about the availability or the price of this watch has been released by Timex. But since it is tiny and disposable, I don't expect the price to be high.

Apple iBangle

Apple Design new concept design for an Apple mp3 player. It is called the iBangle and it is unique as well as ground breaking. It’s no screen and it has some other really cool features.

You see that blue inner band? Push a tiny button on the side and it fills with air, expanding to fit snugly around your wrist.

Apple iBangle’s a multi-touch track pad for easy navigation, and the audio finds its way to your ears via a couple of wireless earbuds. Alas, there’s no screen, but designer Gopinath Prasana figures you can navigate just fine with an audio-oriented navigation system.

Ear buds with the annoying cords won’t be found here, as the audio is transmitted via wireless ear buds. There’s a multi-touch track pad for easy navigation. It also has a few additional buttons for music control. Although the iBangle doesn’t have a screen, designer Gopinath Prasana figures you can navigate just fine with it’s audio-oriented navigation system.

Sony Ericsson C905

Sony Ericsson C905 is the new Cyber-shot phone which offers full 8 megapixel, geotagging, face detection and plenty of other goodies that make it very competitive.

Introduction:
Sony Ericsson had some great cameraphones but recently the company slowed down a bit. The new high-end Sony Ericsson C905 is to bring the company products back to the limelight. Indeed, the phone has plenty of multimedia features packed in a relatively small, well designed body so it might be a good idea to have a closer look at it.

Sony Ericsson C905 pros:
+ 8.1 MP autofocus camera with Xenon flash and lens cover
+ Dedicated camera mode switch, two camera keys above the display
+ Face and Smile detection, smart contrast, image stabilizer, geotagging, red-eye reduction
+ Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and HSDPA (3.6 Mb)
+ Scratch resistant mineral glass 2.4″ TFT 256K-color display
+ Built-in GPS with A-GPS function, Wayfinder Navigator software
+ Very good connectivity
+ Improved user interface with basic multi-tasking
+ FM radio with RDS and TrackID
+ 160 MB built-in memory, M2 card support, 2GB included in the box

Sony Ericsson C905 cons:
- Relatively small display for a high-end device
- Video recording only in QVGA resolution at 30fps
- No office document viewer
- Rigid D-pad
- Sliding lens cover of questionable durability
- Unprotected connectivity port
- Fiddly battery cover

The design:
Sony Ericsson C905 measures 104 x 49 x 18 mm and weighs 136 grams. The phone is made primarily of plastic with chorme-colored controls. The back of the phone is rubbery which makes it easy to handle and not likely to get fingerprints. The front of the phone houses the 2.4” TFT display which might seem a bit small for a high-end cameraphone, but it does its job really great. The direct sunlight legibility is excellent, the colors are vivid and well saturated and the display is quite resistant to scratches. Above it you will find two keys which from the main screen may direct you to your gallery or open the latest image. Whereas when you are in the camera mode they help adjust focus mode, exposure, white balance or effects, so they are really handy.below the display is the D-pad, which unfortunately is not the most responsive. When you slide he phone you will see a very comfortable and evenly lit keypad. On the left side of the phone there is only the M2 memory card slot and the Fast Port. Of the right side you will find the volume rocker, shutter key, as well as the dedicated camera switch and gallery buttons. While the top of the phone has no keys or buttons, on the bottom you will find the loudspeaker grill and the lanyard eyelet. The rubbery back of the Sony Ericsson C905 houses, of course, the camera lens hidden under a protective cover. The overall build quality of Sony Ericsson C905 is very good and thanks to the dedicated camera keys the phone is very easy and comfortable to use.
